Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Sydney

Construction for a major extension to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) commenced in 2010 and opened in 2012. The competition design winner was architect, Sam Marshall. A major feature of the building design was the GRC façade.

Built by Precast Concrete of Brisbane and designed by Rickard Engineering, the panels were the largest GRC panels ever constructed
in Australia and possibly the world, measuring 11 metres by 3.4 metres with a 1.5 metre return and were supplied in a variety of different colours. The panels incorporated a unique connection to accommodate the seasonal movement for such a large panel. They were the subject of a paper presented by Charles Rickard at the GRCA World Conference in Istanbul in 2012.
